Boston Globe: Self-driving trucks are thriving in Singapore, thanks in part to this Boston Company

Venti is featured in Boston Globe! We’re making headlines for our pioneering work in Singapore’s bustling port, one of the world’s busiest port. While the journey for self-driving vehicles has been rocky in cities like San Francisco and Boston, Venti’s autonomous trucks are thriving 24/7 at PSA International’s port, transporting large shipping containers with remarkable reliability.
Heidi Wyle, CEO and founder of Venti Technologies, shared insights into why this success story is unfolding in Singapore rather than on urban streets: “The complexity of an enclosed yard like we work in is probably at least 10,000 times simpler in terms of the computational problem than a downtown urban environment.”
PSA International’s CEO, Kim Pong ONG, highlighted the pressing need for innovation: “The labor pool has gotten tighter and more expensive over the years. It has gotten harder and harder to get manual drivers.” This shortage has paved the way for smarter, more efficient solutions like Venti’s autonomous trucks.
Backing Venti’s vision, Safar Partners’ Managing Partner, Arunas Chesonis noted the significance of Venti’s success: “They didn’t take the easiest first customer with PSA. They took the tiger by the tail in a large, demanding organization. And to actually succeed is even more impressive.”
Venti’s achievement at one of the world’s most critical logistics hubs signals a bright future for autonomous technology in the global supply chain. Kudos to the entire team for this incredible milestone!
